Perry is Perry is a Chicago native who was she was born into Laurie Metcalf and Jeff Perry. In the ABC sitcom Roseanne (as shown in flashback), her mother portrayed Jackie Harris in two of Perry's first TV roles. Fearing stress, her parents didn't want to see performing before turning age 18. Perry acknowledged that she was not comfortable acting in high school, but started doing it to connect with new people at Northwestern University after switching from Boston University. Perry was able to land small TV roles in Law & Order: Criminal Intent when she finished her degree. However, her homesickness caused her to move to California to return, where she started working in the stage.
